The buck converter steps down the input DC voltage level to a calculated output DC voltage level. 

The input is greater than output. A simple method is to add a low pass LC filter at the output of a diode.

The diode provides the path for the inductor current when switch is open. And is reverse biased when switch is closed.

Vs = Supply input voltage
